Path 1 [2013]

Awarded Judges Prize by Bernard Tschumi Cinecity Mebourne 2013

“Walking is a form of architecture; conscious and unconscious delineation and shaping of space through presence and movement; boundaries; axes; paths. Natural environments physically respond to the pressure of bodies and feet and our movements leave trails – natural lines derived from physical repetitive action; footsteps in snow, sand or grass, or a worn forest path. Urban environments are designed to resist marking by the physical presence of the body.” (Pete Gomes ‘Notes on Walking’ for Futuresonic Festival 2004)

With the camera positioned very low to the ground we see material, surface and boundary close up. A walking pace appears to be as fast as a car. Some materials appear familiar whilst others viewed at speed become elusive and make us dream.
